What the current Google student offer includes
Google’s India announcement explicitly offers eligible college students in India one year of Google AI Plus at no charge. It lists Gemini Omni, two times higher usage limits in Gemini and 400 GB of storage.
The announcement separately mentions a discounted Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium bundle. That is not the free Plus offer. Do not read a bundle discount as a promise of free Pro.
The matching student deal on doublethink collects the main conditions. The official offer and your account confirmation remain the checks that matter.
Who can claim it?
The current student offer terms require you to be at least 18 and enrolled at an eligible higher-education institution. You must verify student status through SheerID, use a personal Google Account and have a Google Payments account with a qualifying payment method at signup.
A school-issued Workspace for Education account is not eligible for this consumer offer. The terms also exclude supervised accounts, family-group members, enterprise purchasers, discounted Pixel bundle subscribers and people with Google One subscriptions through third parties or affiliates.
Google decides eligibility. A college email address alone is not approval. The terms say the included plan depends on the institution’s country or region; the India announcement identifies that plan as AI Plus.
How to check and claim the offer
- Open the claim link in Google’s India announcement, or the official student claim page.
- Sign in with the personal Google Account you want to use.
- Complete the requested SheerID student verification with accurate details.
- Check the displayed plan name, free period, payment method, renewal price and renewal date.
- Complete the subscription only if the offer matches what you intend to claim. Keep the confirmation.
The claim destination asked for Google sign-in when checked. We did not complete an account-specific claim or inspect a personalised checkout. Public terms establish the advertised offer, not an individual student’s approval.
Why old AI Pro articles can mislead
Google’s older student terms name AI Pro and set a redemption deadline of 30 September 2025. That deadline has passed. The current terms were updated on 19 August 2026 and set a different deadline.
The current India announcement is the useful distinction: AI Plus is the free plan described for Indian college students. Do not carry over the old Pro name, storage allowance or features into a new claim without checking the current offer.
The catch
The first year costs nothing, but a payment method is required. The terms say automatic billing starts at the standard monthly price for the applicable plan and country when the offer ends, except where local law requires consent. Read your account’s rupee renewal quote; this guide does not verify a signed-in billing total.
Cancel before the offer period ends if you do not want the paid subscription. The terms say membership may remain active until the end of the offer period after cancellation.
Storage also needs a plan. If membership ends while your files exceed the remaining account allowance, the terms say you must remove files or buy storage before storing anything new. The free year is not permanent ownership of 400 GB.
Promotional usage limits may differ from those of paid members and can change because of capacity constraints. Higher limits do not mean unlimited use across all tools.

For an eligible student who wants Gemini and 400 GB of storage, the ₹0 first year is worth checking. Verification and the paid renewal matter more than an old Pro headline. Start with Google’s official claim route and save the plan confirmation.
